Save contents of window before closing

Is there a way to have the application prompt for saving the window to a file, before closing the window? In other words, I make changes to a script, save those changes, then make some more changes to that script. If I close the window, I lose any changes that were not saved; it would be nice if the application would prompt me before closing the window.
