I've got a valid license, for 3.5.7 (no need to upgrade), and am getting the above error when attempting to set input my key.

There is a server-side database connection error that causes the
validation error. I have fixed the bug. Could you please try it again? It
may ask you re-enter your license information.

We have a site License and are seeing this error a lot since version 4.x released. All devs are still using version 3.x but are now unable to activate.
